Razgatlioglu leads Gerloff in tightly contested WorldSBK FP3 in Barcelona

Half-a-tenth separated the top three after FP3 while just four tenths kept the top nine apart after FP3

The final practice session ahead of Superpole and racing action at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya provided a close battle in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship paddock as Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) leading the field in the Hyundai N Catalunya Round, with just 0.051s separating the top three.

Championship leader Razgatlioglu posted a time of 1'41.781s, the fastest lap of the weekend so far, to top the timesheets ahead of Yamaha stablemate Garrett Gerloff (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) with the American in second place, 0.037s behind Razgatlioglu. Gerloff will be hoping it is a return to his best form at the weekend he opened up about how difficult 2021 has been for him, with Gerloff finishing 0.014s clear of Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) in third place after a late lap from the British rider.

Two Ducatis were in the top four as Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing - Ducati) claimed fourth place, ahead of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK), announced as a Yamaha rider until at least the end of 2023, in fifth place. Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) claimed sixth place, having led the times throughout the 30-minute session in the early stages.

In seventh and eighth were Kawasaki Racing Time WorldSBK duo Alex Lowes and Jonathan Rea as Lowes led the six-time Champion, although it was not a session without drama for Lowes. Christophe Ponsson (Gil Motor Sport-Yamaha) had a dramatic end to his session with a technical issue on the exit of Turn 5, with Lowes making contact with Ponsson and being forced off the track. Lowes returned to the garage while Ponsson pulled off the track. Dutchman Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) claimed ninth place while Leon Haslam (Team HRC) rounded out the top ten.
