Yuichi Sugita and Go Soeda will look to get Japan off to the perfect start against Guilherme Clezar and Thiago Monteiro respectively at the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off in Osaka this weekend.
The hosts are aiming to maintain their status in the top flight of Davis Cup for a fifth straight year as they take on Brazil at the Utsubo Tennis Center on an outdoor hard court.
Japan, who have competed in the World Group play-offs for six of the last seven years, know what it takes to win at this stage of the competition and home advantage could prove key against their South American foes.
Brazil, by contrast, have contested the World Group play-offs every year since 2006 but have won just two play-off ties in that time - against Russia in 2012 and Spain in 2014.
The southern hemisphere side is a mixture of youth and experience, with the singles players having played just three ties between them, while the doubles duo of Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares is one of the best in the world with an overall record of 11-3.
Play will start at 2am GMT on all three days of the tie.
