Net Metering Agreement in North Carolina Follows South Carolina’s Lead

RAHLEIGH, NC and WASHINGTON, D.C. - Over the past few years, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) advocated for energy choice and solar energy expansion in North Carolina through policies that work for the region.

Through a collaborative process, SEIA, solar businesses, public interest organizations, and Duke Energy developed an innovative net metering agreement that will expand access to energy savings and provide a wide range of benefits to ratepayers in North Carolina. The program will ensure long-term certainty for the solar industry in the state by setting clear policies for residential solar installations. SEIA, along with several industry and community stakeholders, filed the framework with the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) yesterday.

"North Carolina's net metering agreement was crafted with input from SEIA and its partners and helps to create a policy that works for solar customers, installers, and utilities in the state. This is a step in the right direction for the Southeast and is an example of the ways that smart energy policy can unlock the full potential of rooftop solar, especially when paired with storage and other smart energy technologies.

"We have seen what's possible in the region through the South Carolina Net Metering Successor program and we are excited to expand the North Carolina market in a similar manner."
