Honor Flight Austin's 56th Flight Takes 12 WWII Veterans to Washington DC


AUSTIN, Texas - On Thursday, December 6, 2018, Honor Flight Austin's fifth flight for fall 2018 departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Washington D.C. This totals 56 flights to D.C. since the program began. This flight transported 12 World War II veterans to the nation's capital to visit and experience the memorials built in their honor.

The flight is dedicated as a special Pearl Harbor commemoration flight and the veterans will also participate in the annual Pearl Harbor Day event at the WWII Memorial, as well as a special visit to the White House.

The veterans arrived in the ticketing area at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) at around 10 a.m. The veterans, guardians, and staff assembled for a procession, from Gate 5 to Gate 12 around 11 a.m. The TSA Honor Guard and Austin Police Department bag pipes led the procession.

Honor Flight Austin departed Austin-Bergstrom at 12:05 p.m., and will be arriving at Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) at 4:05 p.m. The veterans will return Friday, December 7, departing from Reagan at 4:55 p.m. and arriving at AUS at 7:50 p.m., all times local.
