We will update this notice as we reassess the situation over the coming weeks.

Due to the global COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, EMEC have put the following measures in place to limit exposure of our team, community and stakeholders to the virus.

We'd like to reassure our customers, suppliers, and project partners that we are continuing to operate, albeit with the following precautions in place.

As we do not know how the virus is going to progress these policies are in effect for a rolling four week period. As of Monday 5 July 2021, these policies extend to at least 2 August 2021.

Offices closed to public:

The Orkney Renewable and Innovation Campus (ORIC) has restricted public access to the Robert Rendall and Charles Clouston buildings.

Please call +44 (0)1856 852060 or email [email protected] if you need to access the EMEC offices.

Working from home:

Where possible, EMEC staff will work from home.

Communication lines will remain open with staff having access to email, their usual telephone numbers and video conferencing facilities (e.g. via Microsoft Teams). You will find contact details for our team here.

We acknowledge that working remotely may not be as efficient as working together in the office and staff may also be dealing with domestic matters and general concerns about the epidemic. We ask your forbearance if response times are longer than normal or we have to modify our service or procedures during this time.

If staff feel unwell, or if anybody in their household feels unwell, they are instructed not attend the office at all and the household should self-isolate.

We may suffer damage to our service if staff are unwell, however we are doing all we can to minimise this.

Meetings:

All meetings will take place via videoconferencing. We already routinely use electronic communications so we don't expect this will change matters dramatically.

When a meeting is unavoidable, we will adhere to current social guidance on keeping distance and avoiding physical contact.

Travel to and from Orkney:

All work travel to and from Orkney is cancelled. Any external meetings should be held via videoconferencing or are to be rearranged to a later date.

EMEC staff out with Orkney:

For our staff living off Orkney, each trip will be individually risk assessed. Trips assessed as high risk, including any air travel, will be cancelled.

Visitors to EMEC:

All planned visits to EMEC are cancelled within the above stated time period.

As time goes on, activities will be assessed regularly, and the above policies may be rolled out for an extended time period. Please note that any travel to/from EMEC and any visits to EMEC that are currently beyond the current four week period may also be cancelled or altered as above.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but the health and safety of our staff, families and community is our paramount concern.

We will update this notice as we reassess the situation over the coming weeks.

If you have any queries or concerns about the above statement, please call +44(0)1856 852060 or email [email protected].

Finally, I want to offer you our support and best wishes. This is going to be a hard time for us all and the economic, social and health outcomes are far from certain or predictable. If you think EMEC can help in some way then please ask.

Take care, and stay safe.

Neil Kermode
Managing Director
