Minister Motshekga to commemorate Africa Day at Hosea Kekana High School in Hammanskraal in Tshwane

As part of the Africa Month Activities, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will on Monday, 16 May 2021 lead the commemorations taking place at Hosea Kekana High School in Ramotse Village, Hammanskraal.

The Africa Day, which is commemorated on the 25th of May of every year, aims at recognizing and acknowledging the mile stones achieved within the Continent and the pivotal role played by the African Union in uniting the continent. And it is also on this day that various fallen heroes and heroines of our country and across the continent are acknowledged and creates a platform to promote unity peace, national identity and building a cohesive society.

Since 1995 there has been continuous and constant commemoration of people, historical anniversaries and events to signify major milestones on our journey to democracy and freedom in the history of South Africa.

On an annual basis DBE shares a year plan of commemorative and significant events. The commemoration of these events forms part of an integrated approach by the sector to the realisation of social cohesion and nation building.
