DeGette Announces Over $15 Million in AmeriCorps Funding for Denver

DENVER, CO- Today, Congresswoman Diana DeGette (CO-01) announced that six organizations throughout Denver will receive $15,199,419in grants and education awards(link is external)from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism. "From programs dedicated to educational success to environmental conservation,these AmeriCorps grants mark not just an investment in Denver, but a commitment to the young AmeriCorps members who serve in these programs," saidRep. DeGette. "By empowering AmeriCorps programs, we're tackling the immediate challenges our community faces and emboldening future leaders with the skills they need to succeed." TheAmeriCorps State and National grants will prepare students for college, revitalize cities, connect veterans to jobs, fight the opioid epidemic, rebuild communities following disasters, preserve public lands, strengthen education, foster economic opportunity, and more. These recipients will join the more than 1.3 million AmeriCorps alumni who have served since the program's inception in 1994, earning more than $4.8 billion in education awards.

After successfully completing their service, these AmeriCorps members are expected toearn $8,314,790 in Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards. Serve Colorado, the state service commission,will also receive $3,266,811 in formula funding, which will, in turn, be awarded to state organizations to support additional AmeriCorps members in the coming months.
