U.S. – Philippines Joint Committee Meeting on Science and Technology

On April 30, 2024, the United States and the Republic of the Philippines convened in Washington D.C. for the latest in-person Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) on science and technology under the 2019 Science and Technology Agreement. The JCM supports Presidents Joseph R. Biden and Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.'s "shared vision of partnership, peace, and prosperity" for the United States and the Philippines, and further strengthens the partnership between the two countries' economies and scientific communities.

Ms. Rahima Kandahari, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science, Technology, and Space Affairs, in the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and Dr. Leah J. Buendia, Undersecretary for Research & Development at the Philippine Department of Science and Technology convened this forward-looking dialogue.

The JCM, first launched under the 2003 U.S.-Philippines Science and Technology Agreement and re-established under the 2019 U.S.-Philippines Science and Technology Agreement, provides a regular opportunity to exchange views on some of the most important science and technology endeavors in our countries, and to prioritize future collaboration. This JCM convened representatives from government agencies and research institutions in the United States and the Philippines to discuss cooperation on OneHealth; agriculture and development; industry, energy, and emerging technology; environmental research; and transdisciplinary approaches to science, technology, and innovation research and communication.
