Portescap launches online dynamic motor selector for brush and brushless DC motors

Portescap has launched an online product recommendation tool for its brush and brushless DC motors. The Portescap MotionCompass enables users to input the operating points and key parameters - as well as requirements for gearboxes and position feedback - then provides a prioritized list of the different products that meet the needs of the application.

Users of MotionCompass are first invited to enter the application's speed and torque requirements, followed by parameters including input voltage, maximum current and diameter. They can then adjust the speed, efficiency, power and current ranking percentages to set motor recommendations to match their importance relative to the application's requirements.

MotionCompass then displays a list of recommended brush and brushless DC motors that will closest meet the specified application requirements. The list can be displayed in ascending or descending order by speed, efficiency, power or current, and users can immediately see the price and lead time for delivery for motors available to purchase. A broader selection of products is available for recommendations as well, reviewing the broad product offering of Portescap.

If a product meets their needs, users can proceed straight to the Portescap eStore to confirm the quantity and complete their purchase quickly and efficiently. If there is no product that fulfils all the requirements, users can adjust the operating point inputs where to see updated recommendations.

At each step, if guidance is required, users can click on the question mark icon for details and advice. There is the option to contact the Portescap team for expert help and support if users are struggling to find a standard product that meets their exact application needs.

Dave Beckstoffer of Portescap comments: 'MotionCompass provides a seamless product evaluation and ordering experience for users looking to purchase a brush or brushless DC motor for their application. Beyond that, it will also prove an invaluable tool at the earliest phases of project development to enable designers to check whether an off-the-shelf motor is available to match the application set-points, environment and envelope. They can iterate their product design and determine the changes that requires from the motion solution. Typically, this has been done with actual testing but now can be accomplished in a virtual setting. The design engineer will save time in their design efforts and ensure a quicker time to market for the end product.'
