Names Released In BrownCounty Fatal Crash

What:One-Vehicle Crash

Where:South Dakota Highway 10 and Brown County 14

19 miles north of Aberdeen, S.D.

When: 6:36 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022

Driver: Marcene Frasier, 69, Shingletown, CA, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Passengers:Cathy Scribner, 65, Shingletown, CA, Serious Non-Life Threatening Injuries

Debra Maglietto, 68, Carlsbad, CA, Life Threatening Injuries

Darlene Leigh, 79, Hot Springs, S.D., Fatal Injuries

Vehicle: 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan

ABERDEEN, S.D. - A Hot Springs woman has been identified as the person who died last Thursday in a one-vehicle crash north of Aberdeen.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan was northbound on Brown County 14 when it did not stop at the stop sign at the intersection of South Dakota Highway 10. The vehicle hit a dip and the driver lost control. The vehicle went into the east ditch and hit a tree.

Darlene Leigh, a 79-year-old passenger, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The female driver and two other female passengers, all from California, were injured in the crash. All four occupants were wearing seatbelts.

South Dakota's Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
