Global SIM Compatibility for the “OMNIedge” IoT Service for Manufacturing Now Available in Taiwan and Singapore

Global SIM Compatibility for the "OMNIedge" IoT Service for Manufacturing Now Available in Taiwan and Singapore

November 30, 2021

THK CO., LTD. has expanded the Global SIM compatibility for its "OMNIedge" IoT service for the manufacturing industry to now include Taiwan and Singapore.

Launched in January 2020, OMNIedge is an IoT service created by THK that is the first to use a communications network to quantify the status of machine components and perform predictive failure detection. The service is primarily compatible with linear motion products such as the LM Guide, ball screws, and actuators. First available in Japan, OMNIedge has since expanded to four other regions: the United States, China, Thailand, and Indonesia. Now, its global SIM compatibility has expanded to include Taiwan and Singapore, where many semiconductor and electronic device-related factories are located.

Most customers who have installed OMNIedge are automotive component, food, and raw material manufacturers with their base of operations in Japan and factories overseas. These customers have all experienced the benefits of being able to remotely diagnose machine status and predict failures at both their domestic and overseas factories while never leaving their headquarters in Japan.

When their domestic and overseas facilities are running the same production lines, these customers want to standardize to a high level of equipment maintenance across countries without having to travel. To address that need, THK will be enhancing its Global SIM compatibility for OMNIedge using international communications networks. By expanding coverage to Taiwan and Singapore, THK hopes the service will be adopted by customers who want to use an IoT platform to achieve a uniform level of component visualization between the components used in their Japanese facilities and those in their overseas factories or in equipment they supply to customer facilities, especially as a precautionary measure during their push to run their manufacturing lines at full capacity in the midst of the global semiconductor shortage. Future expansions will bring the service to many other regions with Japanese-owned factories, such as Central and South America, India, and Southeast Asia.

THK will continue to incorporate feedback from users in order to expand the service in a way that best suits user needs and will help their manufacturing operations achieve continuous productivity improvements.

Features

Manage International Equipment Maintenance without Traveling

This service enables the remote visualization of machine components such as LM Guide units or ball screws in use at factories located outside of Japan.

The operating conditions at these overseas factories can be monitored from Japan, which grants centralized control over maintenance management across all production lines. Keeping track of domestic and foreign factories simultaneously also enables comparisons between the statuses of different devices.

* If using this service in a country outside of Japan, the Global SIM agreement must be executed in Japan.

Simple Pricing

The service is available for a monthly fee starting at 10,000 yen* per device in each country (for a two-year contract).

1 The monthly fee includes equipment leasing fees such as for the sensor and amplifier, communication fees, and the usage fee for the application.

2 Export costs to the overseas location are the responsibility of the customer.

Application Available in Three Languages

To enable monitoring from overseas, the application can be switched between three languages: Japanese, English, and Chinese (Simplified).

OMNIedge: An IoT Service for Manufacturing

Service Overview

OMNIedge is an IoT service that diagnoses the status of a machine component and performs predictive failure detection. Using the THK SENSING SYSTEM, a sensor attached to the component collects data, which is then quantified and analyzed by an original algorithm and transmitted through a secure network. The package comes with a sensor, amplifier, and communication device, and communication fees are included, which makes the service simple and secure, with zero initial costs.

While OMNIedge is currently available for linear motion components such as the LM Guide, ball screws, and LM Guide actuators, the service will be expanded to include rotary components in the future.

Usage Fee

When using Global SIM for overseas applications (with a two-year contract): Starts at 10,000 yen/month per device.

1 The monthly fee includes equipment leasing fees such as for the sensor and amplifier, communication fees, and the usage fee for the application.

2 Export costs to the overseas location are the responsibility of the customer.
