Single Vehicle Crash with Double Fatality -5300 Block of Virginia Beach Boulevard

On Thursday, May 6, 2021 at approximately 8:11 p.m., Emergency Communications received a call for a single vehicle crash in the 5300 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard. Officers, Emergency Medical Services and members of the Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene of the crash and determined that both the driver and the passenger had succumbed to their injuries inside of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations determined that the vehicle was driving westbound in the 5300 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard. The driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the median at which time the vehicle went airborne striking a tree in the median. The vehicle came to a final rest entangled around the tree. Fire crews on scene worked for an extensive period of time to extricate both the driver and passenger from the vehicle due to the significant vehicle damage from the crash. Police believe speed is a contributing factor to the crash.

This case is still very active and the roadway is expected to be closed for the next few hours for the accident investigation. Police ask that you please avoid this area. This release will be updated once the roadway is reopened.

This case remains under investigation by members of the Fatal Crash Team (FACT). No other information is available at this time. This release will be updated as soon as information becomes available.
