Dentons strengthens core UK transactional practices with double partner hire

May 10, 2021

London-Dentons has strengthened its core UK transactional practices with the hire of Corporate partner Patrick Somers and Finance partner Marc Gilston. They have joined the Firm in London.

An M&A and private equity practitioner with specialist expertise in the energy and infrastructure sectors, Patrick advises multinational companies, international financial institutions, large corporates and growth businesses. He has been a senior partner at other international law firms and also served as Group General Counsel at a FTSE Top 30 energy, infrastructure, telecoms and IP licensing group.

'Our Corporate practice has doubled in size over the past five years, and Patrick's arrival further enhances our senior-level bench strength', said Head of UK Corporate Neil Nicholson. 'Domestic and cross-border M&A and private equity are particular sweet spots for the Firm, and the arrival of both Patrick and Marc together significantly enhances our capabilities at a point where we are anticipating increased deal activity in the year ahead. We are very pleased they have chosen to join Dentons'.

Marc specialises in all aspects of general finance work, real estate finance and leverage finance. He acts for banks, non-bank lenders and a mix of public and private borrowers on complex and high value domestic and cross-border transactions.

'Developing our core general lending business, particularly on the borrower and sponsor side, furthers our strategy of working in tandem with Corporate to grow our core transactional service lines,' said Head of UK Banking and Finance Paul Holland. 'Marc joins a Banking and Finance team that over the past few years has grown with partner hires across bank lending, acquisition finance, derivatives, structured finance, debt capital markets, restructuring and asset-based lending.'
