Recent Car Burglaries

Lakeway police are urging residents to please lock your cars/trucks, and take your keys and personal belongings with you when you are not in your vehicle. This includes when your vehicle is parked in your driveway at home. Over the past two weeks, Lakeway police received reports of at least four cars that were stolen from the driveways of homes in the Lakeway area, along with items taken from multiple other vehicles. The incidents happened in various neighborhoods from Old Lakeway to Rough Hollow. No forced entry was made into the vehicles. All instances involved cars that were unlocked, with keys left inside. This is not the first time cars have been stolen in this manner in the Lakeway area. A simple way to deter this kind of criminal activity is to lock your doors, bring in or hide any valuables and take your keys with you. This also includes locking your doors and windows at your home, especially when you are away from your property. If you do plan to be away from your property for an extended period of time, the Lakeway Police Department offers a free service for our residents where an officer can conduct a close patrol of your residence. It's called the House Watch program, and if you register and an officer notices something suspicious or out of place, the police department will attempt to contact the homeowner to report the findings. Click on the link below for more details on that program and to sign up.
