Choosing window treatments for a vacation house or timeshare is a little different than deciding on blinds and shades for your home. You want your second home to appeal to renters yet last through multiple tenants. Style, location, durability, and affordability are all important factors when it comes to filling out your alternate abode. Keep in mind a few simple things to make sure you make the right choice for your rental.
Is your vacation house in or around a skiing town, nestled in the side of a snowbound mountain? Or is your home away from home right on the beach? The location of the property is important in deciding on window treatments.
For cabins, mountain homes or snowy vacation spots, where natural colors and wood décor are the common theme, faux wood blinds (or even real wood blinds) or darker fabric shades are perfect window treatments. Choose blinds or shades in earth tones to bring coziness to the space and highlight the surroundings nature has to offer.
When decorating vacation homes that are stone's throw from the ocean, go with white faux wood blinds. For window shades or drapes, choose bright blues, greens, and corals that capture the essence of the ocean setting. Roller shades are also good choices for a beach house as they offer up privacy, while allowing that peaceful seaside sunshine to light up the inside of the home.
Is your rental in the heart of the city? Modern and sleek window treatments like cordless blinds or solar shades offer unobtrusive window coverings that complement a city landscape.
