Coos Bay Police Department Begins Community Service Officer Program

On January 21, 2022, the Coos Bay Police Department began a Community Service Officer Program intended to increase the service level the CBPD provides its citizens. This was done by expanding the role of our current Evidence Technician, Randy Sparks.

Sparks brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the position as he is a retired 30-year law enforcement veteran having retired as an officer at CBPD in 2006. Sparks has since served as the Coos Bay Police Department's Evidence Technician, as well as a Deputy Medical Examiner for the Coos County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Community Service Officer Program will support our patrol operations by assisting them with some of their calls, such as cold thefts, burglaries, scene processing, neighborhood canvasses to identify potential suspects or further leads, etc. Just in the short amount of time this program has been in operation (three shifts), CSO Sparks has handled over 23 cases.

We are pleased to welcome CSO Sparks in his new role and we are excited to provide an increased level of service to our community.
