Memberships in sports clubs fell significantly between 2017 and 2020

Vienna,2021-09-13 - At the end of 2020, 1.6 million people were members of at least one sports club in Austria. That is around 550 000 people less than in 2017. Men (22%) reported membership far more often than women (13%). These are the central results of a study on membership in sports clubs, which Statistics Austria carried out for the second time on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport in the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021.
