WADA issues revised International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information

Today, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) publishes a revised version of the International Standard for the Protection of Privacy and Personal Information(ISPPPI), which was approved by WADA's Executive Committee (ExCo) on 24 November 2021 with immediate effect.

The ISPPPI is a mandatory document under the World Anti-Doping Program that must be implemented by all Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs). This new version has minor amendmentsto the Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) and Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) modules of Annex A (retention times) to ensure that it is clear, implementable and aligned with operational requirements.

Specifically, the amendments clarify the starting point for the retention period for TUE certificates and TUE rejection decision forms, as well as for ABP-related documentation.

Should ADOs have any questions or comments regarding the revised ISPPPI or the nature of these amendments, we encourage them to contact WADA's Regulatory Affairs and Privacy Unit at [email protected].
