Experience the Best of Austin with our Amazing Staycation Ideas

Whether you've lived in your Austin Camden community for a while or you've recently moved in, there's always a ton of fun things to do in our beautiful city! From great eats to unique ways to spend an afternoon, I have compiled an amazing list to create your perfect Austin staycation (or at least give you some ideas!)

Start with Brunch

In the Domain, you can find various places to eat, shop, or grab a midday drink. A personal favorite brunch spot is Copper. Their cake balls are a highlight, but their whole menu has items that will satisfy. Since it's brunch, why not go for their weekend mix-your-own mimosas for $10?

Another amazing Austin brunch option is our classic tacos! Austin is well known for many taco spots that will make your mouth water. Ranging from the iconic Torchy's Tacos to the amazing Taco Deli and Velvet Taco. That's not even close to covering all Austin's taco tour options, yet, these are some standouts that I always recommend to friends and family.

Austin Staycation Activities

After you're done having brunch at the Domain, make your next stop Top Golf. Not only can you get some great views of Austin, but can also test your golfing skills! You likely won't be hungry but if you are, snack on some delicious macaroni bites while overlooking some of the Domain. If you're looking for another place to try out some golf, I would recommend Peter Pan Mini Golf in Downtown Austin, near Camden Rainey Street! You will find yourself laughing at the art and complexity put into each hole! My personal favorite is the giant dinosaur.

If golf isn't your speed this next activity might be!

Hit the Trails, Tails Optional

Have you wanted to learn to ride a horse? Or, perhaps you already know how, but don't know where to go! ATHaight Ranching And Rescue is the perfect place to kick back and relax. While this treasure is a short drive out of central Austin, the beautiful country views on the drive there can transport you and make you feel those staycation vibes. I volunteer at ATHaight and highly recommend booking an evening trail ride. Not only will you beat the Texas heat, but you'll also see one of our famous big sky, Texas sunsets. Just think, a calming trail ride is less than a 30-minute drive away from several of our Camden communities (Camden Brushy Creek, Camden Huntingdon, Camden Cedar Hills). Pro tip: Make sure you stop at Dale's Essenhaus Restaurant afterward to grab some dinner or a snack.

Is hiking your preferred pastime? If so, you'll be happy to know Austin is home to some beautiful hiking trails. Austin has endless trails and recreational hiking areas and I recommend using the All Trails website to find the ones that work the best for you! Not only are most of these trails pet-friendly (like our Camden communities!), but you will also see some of our beautiful Texas wildlife.

Worked Up An Appetite? Austin has you Covered

After your day exploring our beautiful city, it's finally time to end your evening with some dinner and drinks. Chuy's is a local favorite for its exciting atmosphere and tasty food. Chuy's is an Austin institution, founded in 1982 with its original location off of Barton Springs Rd. If you're looking for a drink to complement your Tex-Mex dinner, I recommend Tito's cherry limeade or a classic margarita.

If you're looking for dinner on the go you can head on over to the Picnic Food Truck Park. Here you can find some fantastic local food to try. There are picnic tables near the trucks if you'd like to eat there or you can grab a plate and keep exploring the city! While there is no set menu at Picnic, you're sure to find something delicious. Did I mention there is even a food truck that serves treats for your furry friend?
