Fire Department Open House

Saturday, October 8, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

"Sparky the Fire Dog" and the Wilmette Fire Department are inviting all youngsters to bring their parents to the Fire Department Open House on Saturday, October 8. Come to Fire Station #26, located at 1304 Lake Avenue, where fire trucks, firefighting and paramedic equipment, special rescue equipment and more will be on display. Specially trained paramedics will be available to perform a "checkup" on your teddy bear so you can experience what it would be like to be a patient. There will be other activities for kids and parents alike, including several demonstrations such as vehicle extrication and specialized rescue. Free parking is available in the Metra lot adjacent to the Fire Station.

October 9 through October 15 is Fire Prevention Week, which marks the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. The theme this year is "Fire Won't Wait. Plan Your Escape," reinforcing the critical importance of developing a home escape plan with all members of the household and practicing it regularly.
