MD|DC Credit Union Association CEO John Bratsakis and NIHFCU CEO Rick Wieczorek teamed up to fight senior scammers druing a special appearance.

They looked 'marvel-ous' during the closing reception at the Association's Annual Meeting & Convention on June 4. The dynamic duo made a grand entrance as their favorite superheroes and urged credit unions to join the fight against financial exploitation of older adults who are increasingly being targeted by scammers. The Senior Superheroes encouraged credit unions to take action by completing training through Senior Safeguard, an online program that teaches employees how to recognize and report financial exploitation. The MD|DC Credit Union Association is providing the program FREE to affiliates. In late June, the Association will begin offering the training to affiliated credit unions to share with their members. Now is the time to take action. Seniors are losing an estimated $36 billion annually to fraud, and according to National Adult Protective Services (NAPSA), 1 out of 9 seniors experiences financial exploitation but only 1 in 44 will ever report it. Credit unions are in a unique position to protect seniors and vulnerable adults from financial scams.
