Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) is proud to have provided a Whangarei hall for the Open Arms Day Centre, which Deputy Prime Minister Kelvin Davis opened today.
The One Double Five Whare Awhina Community House will provide services for homeless people at a daytime drop-in centre.
LINZ manages the former army hall as a Landbank property before it is transferred to iwi as part of a Treaty settlement.
One Double Five approached LINZ this year about using the hall, and LINZ arranged a lease for the centre in August.
'LINZ is very happy to have been able to work with the Whangarei community and put one of our Landbank properties to great use,' LINZ Chief Executive Lisa Barrett said. 'I appreciate the leadership of LINZ Portfolio Manager Maureen Sheldon to make this happen.
'We're very impressed with the way so many volunteers have rallied around One Double Five Whare Awhina to spruce up the hall and get the centre up and running.'
