2018 will see Wolfgang Mozart's popular opera Don Giovanni make its debut at Teatru Manoel. This was announced by Ms Elizabeth Ebejer, Chief Executive Officer this afternoon, while paying a visit to the rehearsals. She was accompanied by Mr Charles Azzopardi, Executive PR & Marketing at Bank of Valletta, and Kenneth Zammit Tabona, artistic director of the Teatru Manoel.
Ms Elizabeth Ebejer explained that this is the second opera in the trilogy of the famous collaboration of Mozart and Lorenzo da Ponte. 'Last year, we featured Le Nozze di Figaro and next year the opera Cosi Fan Tutte will be the protagonist of the Theatre's operatic season. We are excited to finally welcome this 'dramma giocoso' to the Manoel. Of course the production team has looked upon this opera afresh. Audiences will see our Don Giovanni set in the 1950s but with a Gotham City atmosphere that fits perfectly with the touch of the supernatural that runs throughout the opera like a fine thread.'
Speaking about the Bank's support, Charles Azzopardi said, 'It gives us great pleasure to note how operatic performances and their appreciation by the general public have grown over the years. This was our main goal when he entered into the collaborative agreement with Teatru Manoel more than a decade ago.' Mr Azzopardi mentioned the cast which again showcases an interesting blend of local and international talent. 'It also gives us satisfaction to see that two of the BOV Joseph Calleja Foundation scholars, Cliff Zammit Stevens and Nicola Said, are among the protagonists we shall be seeing on stage this year.'
The Teatru Manoel BOV Opera Week will run between the 5th and 11th March. Patrons can opt to purchase tickets for individual performances or bundled packages. Tickets can be purchased from ww.teatrumanoel.com.mt, by e-mailing [email protected] or by calling 2124 6389.
