Osaka University celebrates the anniversary of its founding on May 1

May 1 marks the anniversary of the founding of Osaka University.

On this day, 93 years ago, in 1931, Osaka University was born in the Nakanoshima district of Osaka City as Osaka Imperial University with two schools: Science and Medicine.

The university will hold the Icho Festival on May 2 and 3 to celebrate the day of its founding, welcome new students, and form friendships among OU community members as well as bonds with local communities.

In addition, on May 3, Osaka University will hold its Homecoming Day, an event where alumni, faculty, and staff members from Osaka University and Osaka University of Foreign Studies gather together to deepen their ties as members of the OU Family.

As the recent news about the university, in March 2024, the Kita-Osaka Kyuko Line was extended and a new station, Minoh-Semba handai-mae Station, opened in Semba, Minoh City, where Osaka University's Minoh Campus is located. This allows visitors to come to the Minoh Campus from downtown areas like Shin Osaka, Umeda, and Namba without the need to change trains, making access much easier.

Minoh Campus, as an "Innovation Commons" open to the public, will continue to promote a variety of co-creative activities with local governmental agencies and citizen groups in order to realize an Osaka University Global Campus.

Osaka University, which has developed with society through education and research activity under its motto of "Live Locally, Grow Globally," will work together with diverse stakeholders to create a society in which members can find purpose in life.
