Final Milling & Paving Restoration Work in the area of Old York Rd, Stratford Rd, Mountain Ave 5/9

Final Milling & Paving starting 5/9 in the Following Locations
Starting Monday, May 9, Kehoe Construction will be performing final paving restoration as part of the PECO gas main replacement program. Work will be conducted between 7:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday. The following is the proposed schedule, pending weather. Paving will not be conducted in the rain, but milling will proceed.
5/9 - Milling Stratford and Melrose Aves (Old York Rd-Mountain Ave)
5/10 - Milling Melrose Ave continued
5/11 - Milling West Ave (Melrose-Ashbourne) and Paving Melrose and Stratford Aves
5/12 - Milling Prospect Ave (West-Mountain) and Paving West Ave

Milling & Paving will begin 5/9 for Intersection of Easton & Waverly
Milling and paving work will be conducted May 9 and 10 on the intersection of Easton Rd and Waverly Rd in relation to the Wawa project. Signage has already been posted by the contractor, and Township signage will be posted today. Work will be performed between the hours of 7am-5pm; the Township will enforce 'no parking' during the work hours. Residents, commuters, and pedestrians should expect delays, as partial lane closures will be required. There is a potential for a full closure of Waverly Rd during the paving portion of the project. Easton Rd Closure for Downtown Glenside Arts Festival
Easton Road will be closed from Glenside Ave to Waverly Ave on Saturday, April 23 from 8:00am-8:00pm for Downtown Glenside's Arts Festival. Traffic at the intersection of Easton Road and Glenside Avenue heading in an east and west direction, will not be permitted. Wesley Avenue will be closed as well. Please note that the event is from 11:00-5:00pm, but the closure accommodates setup and breakdown.

PECO Equipment Work Updates
Utility Line Services is completing the PECO gas main installation on Jefferson Ave from Laurel to Central. That crew will then move on to Central Ave between Cottman and Beecher. The closure on Central has an anticipated start date of April 25. Other crews with this contractor are servicing the portions recently installed and gassed up on Ryers, Myrtle, Beecher, and Laurel.

On April 22, Henkels and McCoy expects to begin PECO equipment replacement on the following locations:
- Old York Rd from Spring Ave to Stratford Ave
- Develon Rd from Old York Rd to Beech Ave
- Stetson Rd from Old York Rd to the end
- Academy Ln from Old York Rd to the end
- Juniper Ave from Old York Rd to Manchester Rd
- Melrose Ave from Old York Rd to Manchester Rd
- Manchester Rd from Melrose Ave to the end
Work will take place Monday-Friday from 7:30am-3pm, and will occur in roadways as well as on sidewalks and potentially residential property - affected owners have been contacted. PECO Equipment Replacement on Old York Rd Update
Henkels and McCoy, a qualified PECO contractor, continues natural gas main installation on Old York Rd between Ashbourne Rd and Stratford Ave. This project began in February and is 80% complete, as main replacements on Academy Ln, Juniper Ave, Stetson Rd, and Melrose Ave are complete. Other crews will be completing bare steel service replacement work throughout the township. Work will be conducted between the hours of 7:30am and 3:00pm. The work for these projects will occur in roadways, sidewalks, and some properties. Affected residents have been notified by PECO. Waverly Road Open
As of this afternoon, Waverly Rd between Harrison Ave and Easton Rd is now open. Please continue to use caution in the area due to the continuing construction at the new Wawa site.

Waverly Rd Closed Between Easton and Bickley Rds Tuesday 3/29
As part of the traffic cabinet replacement at Easton and Waverly Rds, Waverly Road will also be closed between Easton Road and Bickley Road on March 29. Workers hope to have the section of Waverly between Harrison and Easton open by next Monday, April 4.

Update on Traffic Lights at Easton and Waverly Rds
Carr & Duff will be performing traffic light work on Easton Rd at Waverly Rd on Saturday, March 26 as part of the Waverly Road realignment project. Work will begin at 7:30am, and traffic will be condensed to a single lane while they set up uprights for the traffic lights. Traffic will be stopped for 5-10 minutes per traffic arm in order to safely lift the arms over the roadway for bolting.

Tuesday, March 29, traffic lights will be out at the intersection of Easton and Waverly Roads. Flaggers will be on site to conduct traffic.

Catenary Structure Replacement Project Impacting SEPTA Fox Chase Line
As part of SEPTA's catenary structure replacement project, construction will take place along the Fox Chase Line beginning this Friday, March 25 at 11:00pm. Impacted stations bordering Cheltenham: Lawndale, Cheltenham, and Ryers stations. Hours will be Sunday-Thursday, 12:00-5:00am, and two consecutive weekends from 11:00pm Friday through 5:00am Monday. The nighttime hours allow for safe operation of the Fox Chase Line during daytime hours. Evening drilling will conclude April 4. Phase 2 rebar installation will begin April 4 and continue through May 27 on a Sunday-Thursday schedule. Sidewalk Closure: Wawa at Easton and Waverly Roads
The connector sidewalk running south in front of the Wawa project on Easton Rd, from Waverly Rd toward the Dunkin Donuts, will be closed due to an unexpected conduit issue. It should reopen by end of the business day on Tuesday, March 22. The Waverly Rd sidewalk from Harrison Ave to Easton Rd will still be open, but pedestrians will need to cross Easton Rd to travel south, for your own safety.

Installation of Traffic Light Poles on Easton Rd at Waverly Saturday, March 19

PennDOT Pothole Repairs This Week on Church Rd and Washington Ln
PennDOT is repairing potholes on a number of local State roads this week, including Washington Lane and Church Rd in Cheltenham Township, which could create delays. Work on Church Rd between Rices Mill Rd and Greenwood Ave is expected for Tuesday, March 15. Motorists are encourages to call 1-800-FIX-ROAD or go online to report potholes to PennDOT for State-owned roads.

PECO Work at Brookfield Rd and Pleasant Hill Dr Later This Month
PECO crews and PECO contractor Riggs Distler will be performing work along Brookfield Rd and Pleasant Hill Dr to upgrade electric infrastructure including conduit and cable. Work will begin mid-March to early April, with expected completion July 2022. Access for services such as trash removal, student transportation and emergency vehicles will be maintained during construction. Impacted customers will be notified if crews need to temporarily interrupt service.

PECO Work on Beecher Ave and Grove Ave starting 3/14
Utility Line Services, a qualified PECO contractor, will be installing new underground pipe as part of their ongoing equipment replacement, beginning the week of March 14, on Beecher Ave from W Laurel Ave to Grove Ave, and on Grove Ave from Beecher Ave to Jefferson Ave. The project may occur in roadways as well as on sidewalks and potentially on property - affected residents have been notified. Work will take place between the hours of 7:00am-3:00pm, and anticipated completion of the project is one month. Aqua Work in the Area of General Patterson Drive starting 3/10
Aqua will be replacing portions of an existing 8-inch terra cotta sanitary sewer main between General Patterson Drive and Church Road beginning March 10, with an expected completion date of March 22, weather-permitting. Water services will not be interrupted.

Curtis Arboretum Tree Removal 3/1
Contractors will be removing 2 hazardous trees at Curtis Arboretum tomorrow, March 1, between 7am-5pm. The Washington Lane Entrance will be closed to all except the residents of Curtis Park Drive - visitors should use the Church Road entrance and must stay above the upper pond. Barricades will be in place to let visitors know where it is unsafe, but this map also shows the closure between the blue lines. The Dog Park will be closed for the day.

PECO Equipment Replacement Continuing on Old York Rd, Ashbourne Rd, and Academy Ln
Henkels and McCoy, a qualified PECO contractor, will continue natural gas main installation on Old York Rd between Ashbourne Rd and Stratford Ave. Also, after completing main replacement on Academy Ln, from Old York Rd to the end, they will move on to Juniper Ave from Old York Rd to Manchester Rd. Other crews will be completing bare steel service replacement work throughout the township. Work will be conducted between the hours of 7:30am and 3:00pm. Limekiln Pike Night Closuresfrom 2/14-17
Contractor Neshaminy Constructors will be performing punchlist work on the bridge over the SEPTA tracks, and implementing night closures of the right lane on Limekiln Pike between Willow Grove Ave and Mt. Carmel Ave next week. The closures will occur from 9:00PM through 6:00AM on Monday night, February 14 through Thursday night, February 17.

PennDOT work at Church Rd and Greenwood Ave starting 2/10
As part of the PennDOT Church Road intersection improvement project, a PennDOT contractor will be performing utility location test holes along Church Road and Greenwood Avenue in the general vicinity of the intersection. Work is expected to begin on 2/10 and will take approximately two weeks, weather-permitting. Limekiln Pike Bridge Overnight Closure Postponed to 2/5
The work scheduled by Neshaminy Constructors to remove the existing AQUA bridge has been postponed until next Saturday, February 5, from 3:00pm through approximately 8:00am Sunday, February 6. View detour here.

Expect Temporary Traffic Delays at Old York and Township Line Roads
Due to a failure of the traffic control device at Old York Rd and Township Line Rd, a new one was installed overnight by Abington and Cheltenham Township personnel. The intersection is operational, but commuters can expect delays due to the temporary nature of the traffic cabinet in use. Please be patient, as crews are working to restore more efficient operations over the next couple of weeks.

Aqua Pipe Replacement Work on Edgemoor Rd Starting 2/2
Aqua will begin the replacement of 1,899 ft of aging 6-inch cast iron pipe with new 8-inch ductile iron water main on Edgemoor Rd. beginning February 2, 2022 with and expected completion in May. Their customer letter can be viewed here.

Limekiln Pike Bridge Overnight Closure 1/29-30
Contractor Neshaminy Constructors will be removing the old Aqua Bridge over the SEPTA tracks on Limekiln Pike near Mt Carmel Ave. Please note that the bridge will be closed from 3:00 PM on Saturday afternoon, January 29, through approximately 8:00 AM on Sunday morning, January 30, with this detour.

Starting Wednesday, expected to take about 10 days to complete, a PECO contractor will be replacing conduit on Waverly Rd near the Easton Road intersection.

PECO Equipment Replacement on Stetson Rd, Old York Rd, and Ashbourne Rd starting 1/13
Henkels and McCoy, a qualified PECO contractor, will be performing natural gas pipeline replacement in the area of Stetson Rd between Old York Road and Juniper Ave beginning Thursday, January 13. Work will be conducted between the hours of 7:30am and 3:00pm. The natural gas main and service line installation project is expected to be completed in 20 weeks.
Also starting January 13, they will be performing work along Old York Rd between Stratford Ave and Ashbourne Rd, and on Ashbourne Rd between Old York Rd and Park Ave, during the hours of 9:00am-3:00pm, with anticipated completion in 16 weeks.

December 9, 2021 Aqua Pipes Relining on General Patterson Drive 12/13
Aqua will begin the relining of sanitary sewer mains with a trenchless cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining on General Patterson Drive on December 13 between 7:30am and 6:00pm, weather-permitting. Residents will be notified and are advised to limit water use that day. During the process, affected residents may notice a glue-like smell in their homes, which is non-toxic and will dissipate. Aqua Utility Work at Glenside and Greenwood Aves beginning 12/7
Caddick Utilities will be completing water utility work for Aqua, at the entrance of the Jenkintown-Wyncote Station near the intersections of Glenside Ave and Greenwood Ave. The work will start on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 and continue, on and off, for approximately four to six weeks. Residents will have access to the train station and all surrounding roads will remain open during work hours.

November 19, 2021 PECO Natural Gas Equipment Replacement Work Week of 11/22

Henkels & McCoy, a PECO contractor, will continue work to replace gas mains in the following areas for the next two weeks:
  • Mountain Ave from Valley Rd to Stratford Ave.
  • Sharpless Rd from Ansley Ave to Mountain Ave
  • Ansley Ave from Old York Rd to Sharpless Rd
  • Valley Rd from Mountain Ave to Coventry Ave

Streetlight Conduit repairs at Mountain Ave and Valley Rd beginning 11/1
Starting on Monday, November 1, contractors will be working at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Valley Road to repair underground conduits and wiring for the traffic signals. Motorists should expect delays and intermittent lane closures while this work is underway. October 26, 2021 Keswick Ave Milling & Paving Work Expected to Start 10/29 (Originally posted 10/22 with a tentative start date of 10/27) Glasgow Inc. will begin milling and paving Keswick Avenue from the Cheltenham Township border with Abington Township to the dead end of the road at the Glenside Library beginning on October 29, 2021 and continuing through early November. No work will take place on Saturday or Sunday. It will be necessary for cars to be removed from the street between 7am and 5pm during working hours. Thank you.

The closure and detour of Waverly Road for the realignment work (part of the Wawa development at Easton and Waverly Rds) will be implemented October 25. The detour is anticipated to be in effect for approximately 45 days. View detour here.

PECO Natural Gas Equipment Replacement Work Beginning 10/4
General Asphalt Paving Co. of Philadelphia, a PECO contractor, will begin work to replace existing natural gas equipment on Monday, October 4 in the area of Yew Rd between Township Line Road and Krewson Lane. Work will take place between 7:30am and 4:30pm, and anticipated time for completion is 4 weeks. As part of the work, PECO or a PECO contractor will need to turn off natural gas service for a short period (4-8 hours) and then connect to the new line. PECO will also be relocating indoor natural gas meters to the exterior of the home - indoor work will not be performed without customer consent; to schedule an appointment, contact Joe Meehan of GAP at 267-688-2170.

Additional Closures Scheduled for Limekiln Pike Bridge
As part of the ongoing construction project of the Limekiln Pike Bridge over SEPTA at Mt. Carmel Avenue, Neshaminy Constructors will need to conduct additional full road/bridge closures in the next 2 months. Detour will be provided.
During the week of 10/18, the bridge will be closed overnight from 9:00pm through 6:00am for the final asphalt milling and overlay of the project, which will likely take 2 nights. The bridge will also be closed from approximately 3:00pm on Saturday 11/13 to 8:00am Sunday 11/14 to remove the existing steel AQUA water bridge on the west side of the new bridge.

Aqua Main Replacement Work Scheduled for the Wawa Project
Water main relocation work for the Wawa development at Easton and Waverly Roads will be taking place now through September 17. This work will be completed with temporary daily partial lane closures on Easton Road with manned traffic control. The closure and detour of Waverly Road will not be implemented until after the Labor Day weekend for the work within Waverly and the further relocation of the intersection. View detour here.

August 19, 2021Date Change for Closure: Limekiln Pike Bridge over SEPTA
This state bridge is located near the intersection of Limekiln Pike and Mt. Carmel Avenue. PennDOT is currently working on replacing the bridge superstructure, and two-way traffic on the bridge is typically being maintained during this project. However, in order to facilitate the concrete pour of the Stage 2 bridge deck, PennDOT is allowing the contractor to institute an overnight full bridge closure with detour commencing (weather permitting) on Thursday, August 26th at 9PM and ending on Friday, August 27th at 5AM. After that time two-way traffic flow will be reestablished on the bridge for the continuing reconstruction project.

There may be a couple of additional nightly detours necessary for this project. A specific notification will be issued in advance of any such bridge closure. The project is currently scheduled to be completed before Thanksgiving Day 2021.

2021 Milling & Paving Locations and Schedule

Work on Cheltenham Township's 2021 Road Milling and Resurfacing Project is slated to begin on August 3rd and is anticipated to be completed by August 20th. This timetable is weather dependent and may change as the project proceeds. The list of street locations included in the project can be viewed here. Glasgow Inc. is the contractor for the project and their current schedule by street location can be viewed here. Work will be performed weekdays between 7:30AM and 4:00PM. The Contractor shall post 'No Parking' signs in all parking areas within work zones at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance of performing roadway work in those areas. The Contractor shall also provide a hand-delivered notice to all affected abutting property owners at least twenty-four (24) hours in advance of any roadway work.

July 27, 2021Limekiln Pike Bridge over SEPTA
This state bridge is located near the intersection of Limekiln Pike and Mt. Carmel Avenue. However, in order to facilitate the erection of the stage 2 bridge beams and the removal of an existing Aqua pipeline, PennDOT is allowing the contractor to institute a full bridge closure with detour commencing on Friday, July 30 at 12:00 Noon and continuing through Monday, August 2 until 5AM. After that time two-way traffic flow will be reestablished on the bridge for the continuing reconstruction project.

This is the last full bridge weekend closure anticipated during the project. There may be some nightly detours to pour the bridge deck and pave the roadway. A specific notification will be issued in advance of any such closure. The project is currently scheduled to be completed before Thanksgiving Day 2021.

PECO Trench Restoration, Milling/Paving July 22-23 Chandler & Hillcrest
As part of the PECO Energy gas main replacement project, Kehoe Construction, Inc. will be performing trench restoration and final roadway milling/paving in the area of Chandler Road and Hillcrest Road on July 22nd & 23rd (weather permitting). Work will take place between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM. The roadway will typically be kept open to one lane of traffic in both directions with traffic control flaggers, but a temporary closure may be required at certain times. PECO Gas Main Replacement Milling/Paving Week of July 26
As part of the PECO Energy gas main replacement project, Kehoe Construction, Inc. will be performing final roadway milling/paving at the following locations beginning on July 14th and continuing into the week of July 26th.

  • Front St from Lanfair Rd to Parkview Rd
  • Front St from Andrea Rd to Arbor Rd
  • Johns Rd from Brookfield Rd to Rowland Ave
  • Edgemoor Rd from Ivinetta Rd to Johns Rd
  • Lanfair Rd from Front St to Ivinetta Rd
  • Ivinetta Rd from Johns Rd to Parkview Rd
  • Parkview Rd from Ivinetta Rd to Rowland Ave
  • Rowland Ave from Parkview Rd to Johns Rd
  • Garden Rd from Johns Rd to Edgemoor Rd
  • Lawnside Rd from Garden Rd to Rowland Ave
  • Brookfield Rd from Parkview Rd to Andrea Rd
  • Waters Rd from Boncouer Rd to Hilldale Rd
  • Hilldale Rd from Waters Rd to Front St
  • Andrea Rd from Brookfield Rd to Waters Rd

Work will take place weekdays between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM. The roads will typically be kept open to one lane of traffic in both directions with traffic control flaggers, but a temporary closure may be required at certain times.
