Mayor Issues Statement on the Passing of Arroyo Grande Teen

ARROYO GRANDE, CALIFORNIA - Leaders of the City of Arroyo Grande are heartbroken over this tragedy. Mayor Caren Ray Russom has issued the following statement:

Our City grieves for this child lost, for their loved ones, their friends, teachers, and the entire Lucia Mar Unified School District family. Our support is with the victim's family. Our deepest gratitude is extended to the AGPD and Emergency services for their attempted life saving measures. This tragic loss will raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our Arroyo Grande community and especially schools and students. We still have much to learn about the circumstances of this tragedy. The investigation is ongoing by the Arroyo Grande Police Department with assistance from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department, San Luis Obispo Social Services, and the Lucia Mar Unified School District.

As the media's focus has tended to be on Covid-19, let us be reminded of the scourge that is the opioid addiction. That crisis is ongoing, and is ever-present right here in our community. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please call the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357) for free, confidential, 24/7/365 information and treatment referrals.
