Press Release - October 1, 2019
DALLAS, Texas (October 1, 2019) - Heritage Auctions has announced that Michael Madrigale has joined its New York office as a Consignment Director in the Fine & Rare Wine Department. He will work closely with clients on consignments in the New York office and throughout the East Coast, hosting wine education and tasting events, and helping clients navigate the Heritage Auctions bidding process.
Over the past 17 years, Madrigale has earned a reputation throughout the wine community as one of the nation's most recognized sommeliers.
'Michael brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our Wine department, and has relationships that will allow him to help expand Heritage's footprint in the wine collecting community,' Heritage Auctions President Greg Rohan said. 'His familiarity with all aspects of the hobby will help balance Heritage's impact on the wine collecting hobby on both coasts.'
The foundation of Madrigale's expertise started when he worked as a consultant at the Burgundy Wine Company. He then worked on the 2002 Nuits St. Georges harvest in Burgundy, which helped foster his respect for nature, the ecosystem and terroir.
Madrigale held sales and management positions with Michael Skurnik Wines, Cliquot, Inc., and Henriot, Inc., before returning to France with Butterfield & Robinson in Beaune to lead wine tours throughout the region. In 2007, he joined one of New York's finest restaurant groups, Chef Daniel's Dinex Group, as wine director of Boulud Sud and Bar Boulud, tasting tens of thousands of wines over a period of nearly a decade. His industry accolades include being named a 2014 James Beard Award finalist for America's Best Wine Program, America's Best Blind Palate at the New York Food and Wine Festival (2010), Bordeaux Ambassador to the U.S. (2015-18), Ambassador of Wins of Northern Greece (2015-18), Sommelier of the Year by Food & Wine in 2012 and Wine Enthusiast in 2013 and a two-time winner of Wine & Spirits magazine's 'Sommelier Scavenger Hunt' in 2014 and 2015.
Madrigale will be based in Heritage Auctions' New York office at 445 Park Avenue (at 57th Street), and can be reached at [email protected] or at 212-486-3687.
