Homicide Arrest / Sentara Hospital Incident

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA- On October 16, 2021 the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD)responded to2400 Block of Loran Courtfor a request to check on the welfare of the residents. Responding officers discovered Linda Christie, F/74,deceased and her son, Matthew Christie, M/38,with seriousinjuries. Matthew Christie was transported to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospitalfortreatment of his injuries.

Further investigation by the VBPD Detective Bureau led to Matthew Christie being charged with FirstDegree Murder and Malicious Assault for the death of Linda Christie.

On October 22, 2021 a VBPD officer from the Second Precinct respondedto Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital totakeMatthew Christie into custody onthe abovecharges. Matthew Christie fled from the officer who gave chase and managed to catch up to him in a stairwell where an extensive struggle ensued. During the struggle, Matthew Christie attempted to disarm the officerresulting in the handgun discharging.

Mr. Christie was eventually restrained; the VBPD officer was uninjured. No other individuals were in the stairwell at the time of the incident. Additional charges against Matthew Christie are pending in this incident.
