Today, Saturday, November 30, 2019, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) delivered an address to the 2nd Battalion of the 113th Infantry Regiment of the New Jersey National Guard, following their nine-month deployment in East Africa fighting terror. The Battalion returned from Africa last night.
'I know that the 2nd Battalion of the 113th Infantry represents the best of our citizen-force. You come together from nearly every station and walk of life for a common purpose: to defend the United States of America and everything we represent -- our democracy, our freedoms, our strength, and all of our opportunities. E pluribus unum -- out of many, one,' said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) today in his address. 'When the United States and our allies face increasing challenges in Africa and the Middle East nearly every day, it is imperative that we continue to demonstrate strength and offer stability in these crucial theaters. That is why your efforts at the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa are essential. You all have played a crucial role in that, and you've had a direct, positive impact on this nation and on the security of our allies.'
The brave men and women of New Jersey National Guard's 2nd Battalion of the 113th Infantry were stationed at Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti and were a part of the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa, which originated under Operation Enduring Freedom - Horn of Africa as part of the U.S. response to the 9/11 attacks.
Gottheimer was joined at today's Welcome Home Ceremony at the Teaneck National Guard Armory by New Jersey Assemblyman Gordon Johnson; Operations Officer Major David Haczyk, New Jersey Army National Guard; Chaplain Major Mitchel Rockland, New Jersey Army National Guard; Brigadier General Edward Chrystal, Land Component Commander, New Jersey Army National Guard; and Command Sergeant Major Thomas Alexander, Land Component Sergeant Major, New Jersey Army National Guard; as well as representatives from the offices of Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker.
