U.S.VETS – HAWAI’I HOSTS “WELCOME HOME” EVENT FOR FIRST RESIDENTS OF KAMA‘OKŪ KAUHALE TINY HOMES COMMUNITY

BARBER'S POINT, HI (March 30, 2022) - U.S.VETS - Hawai'i will host a celebration to "welcome home" the first residents of Kama'okū Kauhale, the new tiny homes community in Kalaeloa. The project was spearheaded by key community stakeholders to execute the vision of Lt. Governor Dr. Josh Green to build small communities throughout the state to address the housing need for our houseless population, by employing a cost-effective strategy to building sustainable homes.

This small, private event will be open to the Press on April 6 from 11am to 1pm, and will be held on-site at Kama'okū Kauhale, located at 91-1070 Yorktown Street in Kapolei.

"As the first of hopefully many, this community holds a special place in our hearts because it represents so many things for us," explains Dr. Kim Cook, Vice President of Clinical Services for U.S.VETS. "Not only is this community a safe place for our residents to call home, but it is the result of what is possible when we refuse to accept that there is no solution to ending homelessness in our state. The strong collaboration amongst all who have poured love into the development and evolution of this place is why lives will be transformed here." Dr. Cook continues, "we want to give a proper welcome to our new residents of Kama'okū while also giving our supporters who made this possible a chance to meet the men and women whose lives they are changing through this initiative."

The 36 tiny homes of Kama'okū Kauhale are built on 1.5 acres next to the current U.S.VETS - Barber's Point site, with operations led by current U.S.VETS staff.
