Imaging Technology Upgrades at Montgomery Memorial

TROY - FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital (MMH) now offers more advanced imaging services with the installation of a new CT scanner this summer.

The GE Revolution EVO CT is a 64-slice machine that reduces radiation exposure for patients by up to 82% without compromising imaging quality.

"Our ability to offer CT capabilities that will decrease patient exposure to radiation while not affecting image quality is a big advantage to our patients and our physicians," said Pam Duncan, imaging director at MMH. "The new CT scanner is also equipped with post-processing software, which will improve efficiency and workflow by up to 40 percent."

CT scan uses X-ray technology to produce images of the inside of the body. A CT scan can show detailed images of any part of the body, including the bones, muscles, organs and blood vessels.

"The upgrade also gives us the ability to perform more CT scans of lower extremities, which allows more accurate diagnosis of things such as fractures and vascular disease or conditions of the legs," added Duncan. "The new scanner is also larger and can support additional weight and size. This will improve our ability to treat patients who previously had to travel to other facilities for a CT scan."

The upgraded CT scanner is one of many recent enhancements to the imaging capabilities at Montgomery Memorial. All X-ray technology has been converted to digital radiography, which decreases patient dose and increases imaging quality. The facility also offers MRI availability with increased capacity and has offered 3-D mammography since January 2021.

Brand new state-of-the-art imaging rooms have been added in the medical arts suite and in the hospital imaging department specifically for the specialized care of orthopaedic patients. The department has also undergone facility renovations to provide a more inviting and comforting experience for imaging patients.

"FirstHealth is proud to offer new technology for our patients while providing the best experience possible," said Duncan.
