Tuberville, Colleagues Call for Halt of CBP One App Use

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) cosponsored the Verifying that all Aliens have Legitimate Identification Documents Act (VALID)in response to the continued invasion at the southern border and the Biden administration's decision to validate the CBP One Mobile App as an acceptable form of identification for air travel into and across the U.S. This legislation directly targets the loopholes exploited by illegal immigrants to travel within the U.S. without proper identification.

Since the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) began accepting the CBP One Mobile App as a form of identification for air travel, there have been over 200,000 illegal immigrants who have entered the U.S. using the app as their sole form of identification. The VALID Act would permanently close this loophole.

Senator Tuberville joined Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Rick Scott (R-FL), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Mike Braun (R-IN), and John Thune (R-SD) in cosponsoring the legislation.

Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), NumbersUSA, the America First Policy Institute, the Immigration Accountability Project, and Eagle Forum have endorsed the legislation.

BACKGROUND:

Key provisions of the VALID Act include:

  • Prohibiting TSA from accepting the CBP One Mobile App, a Notice to Appear (NTA), or a Notice to Report (NTR) as valid forms of identification for passing through TSA security checkpoints and boarding planes.
  • Banning aircraft from foreign countries that accept the CBP One Mobile App, an NTA, or an NTR as legal forms of identification from operating in U.S. airspace.

During his first four years in the Senate, Senator Tuberville has made multiple visits to the southern border and worked on many legislative initiatives to secure the border, including giving law enforcement the tools needed to keep our communities safe and reforming immigration law to crack down on abuse and discourage illegal immigration. Senator Tuberville supports common-sense policies that strengthen our border and national security.
