SAN ANTONIO, TX (March 27, 2020) - In an effort to encourage the public to adhere to the Stay Home, Work Safe Orders, Bexar County and the City of San Antonio announced service changes to County and City park amenities. The following will be closed to the public effective March 27 at 11 p.m. and through the duration of the Stay Home, Work Safe Orders (currently in effect through April 9):

  • Basketball Courts
  • Outdoor Exercise Equipment
  • Playgrounds
  • Skate Plazas
  • Splash Pads

Bexar County Service Updates

All County park playscapes, play equipment and basketball courts will close as of this evening. Playground equipment will be closed off and later wrapped to prevent any unauthorized use. County open green spaces, trails, picnic tables and restrooms will remain open. Picnic tables, water fountains and restrooms have been and will continue to be cleaned and sanitized 2-4 times per day, depending on frequency of use. Park staff will continue to monitor and maintain grounds, as well as provide reminders to maintain social distancing while using County parks open spaces.

City of San Antonio Service Updates

In addition to the amenities listed, the following City facilities and services continue to be closed to the public until further notice: community and adult/senior centers, clubhouses, splash pads and gyms. All programming and classes are suspended. The park reservations counter at Ron Darner Headquarters is closed to the public through April 19. Open green spaces, dog parks, trails and bathrooms will remain open and allow Parks staff to focus efforts on promoting social distancing in parks and on the greenway trail system in concert with Park Police.
For visitors in City parks for outdoor activity, the public should comply with the guidelines established in the Stay Home, Work Safe Orders. As a reminder to the public visiting City parks, signage in English and Spanish have been placed in high traffic areas such as at trailheads, park entrances and other areas, reminding visitors of CDC suggested guidelines for social distancing.
The Parks and Recreation Department has a team focused on community engagement and education on social distancing deployed at various parks and trails throughout the city.
Below are a few helpful tips:

  • Observe CDC's recommended social distancing of six feet from other persons at all times.
  • Practice social distancing on trails to warn other users of your presence and step aside for others to pass.
  • Follow CDC's guidance on personal hygiene prior to and during use of parks and trails. This includes washing hands, carrying hand sanitizer and covering your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
  • Participate in individual activities such as walking, cycling, running and yoga.
  • Avoid congregating in groups, group sports, or contact sports.
  • Do not use parks, trails, or amenities if you are exhibiting symptoms.
