In a unanimous decision of the City Council on Wednesday night, Mayor Steve Ly announced the appointment of Jason Behrmann as Elk Grove's next City Manager.
'We are excited to continue working with Jason,' said Elk Grove Mayor Steve Ly. 'After conducting a national search, it was clear to the Council that there was no one more capable of running Elk Grove's City Hall.'
Mr. Behrmann was hired as Elk Grove's Assistant City Manager in 2015. He has served as the Interim City Manager since May 2018. Mr. Behrmann has more than two decades of experience working in local City governments including service as City Manager for the City of Galt for six years and previous positions with the cities of Bloomington, Indiana, San Luis Obispo, and Dublin, California.
'I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Elk Grove community,' said Behrmann. 'I want to commit to the Council and to the community that I will serve with integrity, honesty, professionalism and fairness. I want to support the high standards of service we have set at City Hall and foster new standards for transparency, inclusiveness, and embracing new ideas and ways of doing business, while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Elk Grove has a bright future. There are a lot of things on the horizon for our community. I look forward to helping Elk Grove reach its full potential.'
As the City Manager, Mr. Behrmann will oversee the daily operations at City Hall. He will manage a workforce that includes city and contract employees providing city services including Police, Animal Services, Public Works, Economic Development, Planning, Public Affairs, Code Enforcement, Building, Finance, Recycling and Waste, and Transit. He will be the primary liaison between the Council, the community, and city departments.
Mr. Behrmann earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University. He holds a Master of Public Affairs degree from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. Mr. Behrmann resides in Galt with his wife Shelby and their four children, Andrew, Natasha, Preston, and Adam.
