Boscola Bill to Allow for Full Implementation of Health Care Compacts Passes Committee

May 1, 2024

HARRISBURG, PA - April 30, 2024 - Senator Lisa Boscola announced the unanimous passage of her bill, Senate Bill 1165, by the Senate Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure Committee today. This significant legislation addresses crucial issues surrounding professional licensure, particularly in the healthcare sector.

The bill would require Pennsylvania-based nurses, physicians and other eligible workers who want to work under multi-state compacts to undergo fingerprinting as part of a criminal background check by the Pennsylvania State Police and the FBI.

SB1165 takes a pivotal step forward in allowing for the full implementation of the Nurse Licensure Compact, championed by Sen. Boscola and signed into law by Governor Wolf as Act 68 of 2021.

Senator Boscola on the passage of her bill by the Senate committee, said "I am thrilled to see SB1165 move forward. This language will finally allow our health care compacts to be fully implemented. It is a testament to our commitment to modernizing licensure processes and promoting accessibility within the healthcare profession."

The legislation is now headed to the full Senate for consideration. Boscola believes this legislation will be considered in the near future, as the House and Governor both have indicated support for this fix, making it a priority.
