CONFIRMED: Pizza Boxes CAN Be Recycled!

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today participated in a hearing on the importance of recycling for a more sustainable future.

HIGHLIGHTS:

CHINA'S IMPACT: "I mentioned in my opening statement that China changed its policy towards accepting materials from our country. I'm wondering, has the market already responded to this? What are you seeing in terms of making our system more resilient? What kind of impacts does it have?"

RECYCLING IN RURAL AREAS: "I'm from a rural state, West Virginia. I live in the capital city. We've had recycling bins here and there, but it's unsustainable for the municipality. They can't afford it. They don't have the manpower, the funds to be able to transport and figure out what to do with this. I would imagine in rural America this is a huge problem. What kind of solutions have you seen? Is it a hub-and-spoke kind of solution? What are your members seeing?"

EMERGING RECYCLING TECHNOLOGIES: "You've obviously had great success with your Juno technology. We've heard a lot about plastics and the low numbers. What are lessons learned from what you've been able to do and-hearing the testimony today and the concern from members-what would you say could be correlated to a more successful and efficient plastics recycling?"
