CARES Act Allocates $485,056 to Boulder for COVID-19 Prevention and Response

This allocation is authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), which was signed into law March 27. This allocation, under CDBG, will benefit low- and moderate-income persons in Boulder.

'The CDBG funds we receive annually are critical for the provision of housing and services that benefit low- and moderate-income community members,' said Mayor Sam Weaver. 'This special allocation during this crisis will go a long way in benefiting some of people hardest-hit by the pandemic.'

HUD has approved expedited processes to allow for quicker access to the grants and some flexibility on how the funds can be applied. The city's Housing and Human Services Department (HHS) is responsible for receiving and allocating these funds for the City of Boulder. Working closely with their community partners, HHS will look to invest in existing programs that are providing essential services to low- and moderate-income people in Boulder.

'The city has long-standing relationships with committed community partners that work to fulfill essential housing and service needs in Boulder,' said Kristin Hyser, deputy director of Housing and Human Services. 'The supplemental funds coming to the city will leverage the expertise of our partners and help their operations remain up and running in service to some of the most vulnerable in the community.'

Funds will be deployed based on the benefit to low- and moderate-income persons, alignment with the adopted Consolidated Plan and the organization's experience using HUD funding. Funds are expected to be available within 45 days of the CARES Act enactment date.
