In his video message to OIC's consultation meeting, President Erdoğan said: 'We will not allow imperialists to divide us as Shia-Sunni, white-black, Turkish, Kurdish, Arab or Persian. We will love and care for each other only for the sake of Allah and his acceptance and not for our identity, nationality or race. We will never allow daily political arguments to overshadow our understanding of the Ummah or harm the brotherhood amongst us.'
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a video message to the Consultation Meeting of the Ministers and Presidents of Religious Affairs and Grand Muftis of the Member and Observing States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which was held online by the Presidency of Religious Affairs.
'AS MUSLIMS, WE SHOULD EXCHANGE OUR VIEWS MORE FREQUENTLY'
Stating that as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, this year's meeting via digital platforms, President Erdoğan wished Allah's mercy upon those who have lost their lives during the pandemic and a speedy recovery to the patients.
Expressing his pleasure over being able to come together with distinguished scholars of the Islamic world, President Erdoğan noted: 'As Muslims, I believe that we should exchange our thoughts and views more frequently, and listen to each other more, especially in these times filled with harshness and trials.'
'We can overcome our problems as long as we focus on our mutual matters and points instead of our differences,' underscored the President, adding: 'Providing we stay together, and tighten our ranks in line with the notice of 'In togetherness there is Rahma, and in division there is torment', we will attain happiness in this world and the hereafter. I kindly ask for you to develop decisions which will strengthen our universal brotherhood and enlighten our path and horizons in line with the weight you all carry on your shoulders.'
'MANY AREAS OF OUR GEOGRAPHY OF FRATERNITY ARE SUBJECT TO BLOOD, TEARS AND INSTABILITY'
Pointing out that Muslims come face to face with many intricate problems such as terror, hunger, inequality due to ignorance and domestic conflicts, President Erdoğan said: 'From Yemen to Syria, from Afghanistan to Libya, many areas of our geography of fraternity are subject to blood, tears and instability. It is unfortunate that the lands of Islam, which in history held the torch for mankind for centuries and was commemorated with knowledge, wisdom and peace, is now surrounded with cries. An average of a thousand of our Muslim brothers and sisters worldwide fall victim to terror or violence every day. Racism, nationalism, sectarianism and terror disturbances in particular have become the issues which lead to the fall of the Islamic world from within.'
It will never be possible for us to accept scenarios where the victim and the perpetrator both utter 'Allahu Akbar', President Erdoğan stated, and went on to say: 'The reason for the current fighting between Muslim brothers and sisters, is due to the disregard given to the order by our Prophet (PBUH), during the Farewell Sermon; 'Do not fall into Kufr or heresy after me, by striking the necks of one another'. If Muslims today, from Iraq to Yemen, are consuming all their energy with arguments due to ethnicity and sects, the greatest reason for this is that we have distanced ourselves from the Quran and Sunnah which the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) had ordered us to 'Hold tightly onto'.'
The President continued: 'We do not have a religion which is named as Sunnism or Shi'ism, as our religion is Islam. Being Muslims, being part of the Ummah of the blessed Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), who has been sent down as a mercy for the universe (PBUH), is enough as an honor for us. Anyone who seeks for a position other than serving Allah is in great negligence. We believe, as part of our faith, that superiority is with piousness and not with wealth, abundance of possessions or race.'
'WE WILL NEVER HARM OUR BROTHERHOOD'
President Erdoğan further noted: 'Along with politicians, there is an important mission for scholars like you in resolving these disturbances which is eating away the Islamic nation from within. We first and foremost have to hold on tight to the rope of Allah, not fall into disorder and never harm our brotherhood. We will not allow imperialists to divide us as Shia-Sunni, white-black, Turkish, Kurdish, Arab or Persian. We will love and care for each other only for the sake of Allah and his acceptance and not for our identity, nationality or race. We will never allow daily political arguments to overshadow our understanding of the Ummah or harm the brotherhood amongst us. Let us not forget that 'the universe will not accept emptiness'. Falsehood soon occupies the area which rights and realities are withdrawn from.'
'If people do not quench their thirst in religious matters from authentic sources, they will fall into the clutches of immoral twisted structures, in relation to Islam, such as, ISIS, FETO, Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram,' President Erdoğan said, adding that many of the problems confronted in today's social life is due to the misunderstanding of Islam.
'THOSE WHO BECOME TROUBLED WITH THE RISE OF ISLAM ATTACK OUR RELIGION'
'Those who become troubled with the rise of Islam, are those very people who put forward the crisis caused by themselves and attack our religion,' the President further stressed, and noted: 'Statements, made by Western politicians today against Islam and Muslims, has become a handy device to mask their own failures. The latest examples for this would be the terms of 'French Islam', 'European Islam' and 'Austrian Islam' being brought into the spotlight. The actual aim and purpose of these attempts, French President Macron taking the lead in this, is to settle accounts with Islam and Muslims. More so than fighting against terror under the guise of 'fighting extremism', the aim is to form a passive, shy, cowardly and unassertive Muslim profile, as one who does not respond to oppression or raise their voice against tyranny.'
Underscoring that an anti-Islamic system where religion is only practiced at home and no permission is given to religious principles and symbols in the streets, work places, downtown or social life is desired to be established, President Erdoğan added: 'A system, in which religion is controlled and suppressed by the state, and a much more serious form is worked upon, cannot be named as democracy, but instead is totalitarianism. It is impossible for anyone of us, any Muslim country, to show consent to such manner where there is no limitless drawn. Systematic attacks from the outside, the mistakes that set the stage for these attacks from within will never penetrate the spirit of our religion.'
President Erdoğan stated: 'Turning towards understanding and comprehending the essence of religion, instead of attempting to expand or narrow the scope of it, will surely open new doors. I believe that you, dear scholars and intellectuals, who I see as a hope for the Ummah and the world, will play a leading role in this matter. While ending my words with these thoughts, I thank each and every one of you for your affiliates. I pray that Allah does not separate us from the bright path of the Quran and Sunnah and, I greet you once again with the best of greetings.'
