"Congratulations to all the students and teachers at Thames River Magnate School on the hard work and dedication that it took to earn this national recognition today. Families in Groton are lucky to have teachers like these at our schools, and for educators like Susan Austin, superintendent of Groton Public Schools, who has now helped build two of our local Groton schools into National Blue Ribbon winners. Thames River is one of four new magnet schools in Groton, focusing on giving kids a solid start in environmental and marine sciences, and now they're one of just four schools in the entire state to receive this recognition this year. We are very proud and excited to help celebrate their achievement," said Rep. Courtney.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recognized 325 K-12 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021. The award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The Department will honor all 302 public and 23 private schools at a recognition ceremony in Washington, DC, taking place on November 4th and 5th.

In 2016, as Assistant Superintendent of Groton Public Schools, Ms. Austin helped welcome the designation of Groton's Charles Barnum Elementary School as a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School.
