Voters in Alabama Reject Republican Effort to Outlaw IVF, Tom Barrett in Michigan is Next

This week, a special election in Alabama made it clear as day: access to reproductive care will be on the ballot this November - putting Republican extremists like Tom Barrett on the hook for supporting efforts to outlaw IVF.

Alabama Democrat Marilyn Lands' landslide victory in a GOP-held seat demonstrated that the anti-abortion policies championed by Barrett and MAGA Republicans are deeply unpopular.

While Barrett won't stand up to his party bosses who recently endorsed legislation to outlaw fertility care, his lengthy anti-women, anti-abortion agenda is telling enough. Barrett has bragged about being "100% PRO-LIFE - NO EXCEPTIONS," supported the 1931 Michigan law that would ban abortion with no exception for rape or incest, and defended his extreme stance by saying, "I know I'm right."

DCCC Spokesperson Aidan Johnson:
"MAGA extremists, including Tom Barrett, will stop at nothing to roll back women's fundamental freedoms. Michiganders protected reproductive rights in 2022, but IVF is under attack at the national level. Barrett might be too scared to stand up to his party bosses who endorse outlawing IVF, but his record speaks for itself. He can't be trusted to protect mid-Michiganders' reproductive freedoms."
