Scheduled cleaning of 10th and Cherry parking garage to begin July 12

(COLUMBIA, MO)- Beginning Tuesday, July 12, at 8 a.m., Columbia Public Works parking utility staff will begin a scheduled deep cleaning and surface sealing of the 10th and Cherry parking garage, located at the corner of South 10th Street and East Cherry Street.

Barricades will be posted on the second level to close floors two through four of the facility to all traffic and parking. Parking permit holders will be allowed to access parking spaces on the first floor, but hourly parking will not be allowed in the parking garage for the duration of the maintenance.

Once each level has been fully cleaned and dried, a sealant will be applied to keep moisture from penetrating the surface. Cleaning and sealant application on the upper floors is scheduled to be completed by Thursday, July 14, weather permitting.

On Thursday, July 14, staff will begin to clean surfaces between the South 10th Street entrance and the second floor, and entry to and exit from the garage will only be allowed on the Hitt Street side of the parking garage. Parking permit holders will be given access to the spaces located on floors two through four, and hourly parking will continue to not be allowed anywhere in the parking garage. Barricades and signs will be in place to help direct traffic around work areas during this phase of maintenance.

Once the cleaning of the lower floor has been completed, a sealant will once again be applied to keep moisture from penetrating the surface. Maintenance on the lower floor is scheduled to be completed by Saturday, July 16, weather permitting.

Signage has been posted at the entrances to the facility to make motorists aware of the upcoming maintenance. Permit holders will also receive an email from Public Works administrative staff in order to make them aware.

Normal public parking will resume in the 10th and Cherry parking garage Saturday, July 16, even if work is still being performed.
