João Gomes Cravinho visits Cape Verde

22 May 2022

Three days of official visit to Cape Verde, coinciding with Africa Day. The Minister of Foreign Affairs (MFA), João Gomes Cravinho will visit the islands of São Vicente, Santo Antão and Santiago from Monday to Wednesday, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (SENEC), Francisco André.

In efforts to provide continuity to the commitments cemented last March at the VI Bilateral Summit- which took place in the city of Praia, under the slogan " Strategic Partners in Post-Pandemic Recovery"- the head of Portuguese diplomacy will meet with the highest officials of the Republic of Cape Verde. Precisely on Africa Day, which is celebrated on the 25th of May, the MFA will have courtesy meetings in the city of Praia, Santiago Island, with the President José Maria Neves, the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva and the President of the National Assembly, Austelino Correia. The MFA will also join his counterpart Rui Figueiredo Soares in a meeting, soon after he arrives in the city of Mindelo, in São Vicente Island, and as well as in the city of Praia.

The cooperation between Portugal and Cape Verde is dynamic, diverse, and sustained, encompassing projects in several sectors, some of which will be on the agenda for these three days of visit, as is the case of Education, Language, Culture, Health, Environment, Agriculture and Economy.

The celebration of Africa Day in Cape Verde and the visit to three of the country's ten islands is a clear signal of the excellence and scope of the relations, both at the institutional level and between the peoples, which Portugal and Cape Verde are committed to strengthening. The MFA will thus visit, in less than two months, another country of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
