Cool Covey of Quail

A cool covey of quail (15), also known as Northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) are shown here on Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Quail population has declined over the past 50 years across the region. Overhunting, different agricultural practices and loss of habitat are just a few possible reasons for their diminishing population.
