Migration flows: actions by the Farnesina in North Africa, the Sahel and West Africa

With the Migration Fund, the Farnesina has launched a set of actions for a total value of 37.2 million euros as a contribution to the stabilization of migration flows in North Africa, the Sahel and West Africa. Such measure confirms Italy's attention to the fight against the smuggling of migrants and support to the Countries most exposed to the consequences of the worsening of the food crisis in the area of migration.

The initiatives will be carried out in the traditional priority areas for the Italian migration strategy, with a focus on supporting the local communities that welcome migrants in the transit Countries. Notably, three projects have been financed in Libya, two in Niger and one in the Sahel, aimed at improving the management of borders and fighting human trafficking. These actions will be complemented by different activities in West Africa, including actions in Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire aimed at strengthening the capacity to manage migration flows. Moreover, information campaigns on the risks of irregular migration will be initiated in the Sahel and Côte d'Ivoire.
