Schneider Announces 2021 Congressional App Challenge Winners

DEERFIED, Ill. - Congressman Brad Schneider (IL-10) this week announced the winners of the annual Tenth District Congressional App Challenge. Lake Forest Academy students Michael Xing and Bill Le won with the creation of their app, "Wanted," which rewards students through a game system when they take action to help the environment.

"The Congressional App Challenge is an opportunity for Tenth District students to demonstrate and develop their STEM skills by designing apps, which have come to touch every aspect of our lives. I truly enjoyed seeing all of this year's entries, many of which were designed to help other students learn better. Congratulations to Michael and Bill for creating a first-class app, 'Wanted' and encouraging people to do their part in combatting climate change," Schneider said.

Deerfield High School student Cole Gawin won second place with his app, "Well: Reboot Your Mindset." Gawin's app challenges users to every day log three gratitudes and three acts of kindness, write a journal entry, exercise for 20 minutes, and meditate for 15 minutes in order to maintain mental and physical well-being. Lake Forest High School students Andrew Terkildsen and Jack Doheny won third place with their app, "Money Up," which helps students learn money management skills through budgeting and goal-setting.

The first-place winners will have their application displayed in the U.S. Capitol and featured on Congressman Schneider's website.
