Risch: Abiy Must Show Leadership in Bringing Peace to Ethiopia

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the swearing-in of Prime Minister Abiy and the devastating security and humanitarian crises facing Ethiopia:

"As Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed begins his first full term in office this week, he must move beyond the politics of transition and begin tackling the hard truths underlying the many crises facing all Ethiopians. Decisive political leadership is what Ethiopia needs. While the Ethiopian people have a vital role in this effort, the prime minister's leadership is central to peacefully resolving the conflict in northern Ethiopia and unifying the country."
