UNESCO is pleased to invite you to the online launching event of the UNESCO Special Edition Gender & Creativity: Progress on the Precipice on Friday 4 June 2021 from 12h30 to 13h30 (Paris time).

Published on the occasion of the International Women's Day in March 2021, the publication delves into existing - and at times widening - gender gaps and calls for unreserved commitments and transformative actions for gender equality in the creative and cultural industries, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.

The event will be moderated by Ms Jamila Seftaoui, Director for Gender Equality at UNESCO. The Special Edition will be presented by Mr Toussaint Tiendrebeogo, Secretary of the 2005 Convention. The debate will address transformative measures for gender equality in cultural and creative industries as well as ways to promote well-being and security for all in the workplace and will bring together the following panelists:

  • Ms Bridget Conor (New Zealand), author of the Special Edition 'Gender & Creativity', researcher and professor at King's College (London, United Kingdom).
  • Mr Luis Alberto Quevedo (Argentina), Director of FLACSO (Latin-American Faculity of Social Sciences).
  • Ms Deeya Khan (Norway), musician, documentary director, UNESCO goodwill ambassador for artistic freedom.
  • Ms Nia Dinata, (Indonesia), award-winning director and producer
  • Ms Esi Atiase (Ghana/Senegal), digital artist, member of the 'RĂ©siliente' movement.

Organized as a side event of the 8th session of the Conference of Parties of the 2005 Convention on the Promotion and Protection of the Diversity of Cultural Expression to be held virtually from 1 and 4 June, the event will be an opportunity to share main messages and recommendations to Member States and other partners in the perspective of promoting policy change in favor of gender equality.

The debate will be broadcasted in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
