STATEMENT FROM REP. FUDGE ON VOTE TO REPEAL IPAB

WASHINGTON - Today, Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) released the following statement regarding her vote against H.R. 849, the Protecting Seniors' Access to Medicare Act, which would repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) and increase the deficit by billions:

'I could not support H.R. 849. In advancing this bill, House Republicans did not figure out how to pay for the $17.5 billion it will cost to repeal the IPAB. Today's vote was not only premature and fiscally irresponsible, but a blatant attempt by Republicans to sabotage the ACA.

'Republicans would like to pretend otherwise, but the ACA is working. Let's be clear: Medicare spending has slowed and the trust fund's solvency has been extended as a result of the cost-savings and improvements made since 2010. IPAB will not be triggered until at least four years from now.

'Republicans should be working with Democrats on bipartisan solutions to stabilize the marketplace and pass a clean bill reauthorizing CHIP and Community Health Center funding.'
