As we move forward with our Shaper Class newbuilding program and continue to take practical steps on our journey towards net zero, we believe the time is now right to join the First Movers Coalition.

Joined up thinking

The leading global public-private partnership, the First Movers Coalition (FMC) is working to scale the most critical, emerging climate technologies required to decarbonize the world's heavy-emitting sectors. Clearly aligning with our strategic goals, our commitment is unique, covering our activities at sea and onshore.

"I am delighted to confirm that Wallenius Wilhelmsen ASA will join the First Movers Coalition with commitments in both the Shipping and Logistics sectors," says Lasse Kristoffersen, CEO of Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

At Wallenius Wilhelmsen we have set ambitious targets for 2030 in both sectors: to ensure that at least 5% of our deep-sea shipping operations are powered by zero-emission fuels and that at least 30% of our new heavy-duty truck purchases are zero-emission vehicles.

In addition, joining working groups for both our ocean and land sectors is particularly important with our clearly stated ambition to offer a zero-emission end-to-end service by 2027.

Collaboration is key

Working together with various peers from across the shipping and logistics industries, we hope to benefit from both knowledge sharing and by building consensus around how we best communicate future fuel needs to the market in a coherent and focused way.

Acknowledging our path to net zero is a collaborative effort, we are actively encouraging industry peers and partners to participate. "Wallenius Wilhelmsen will aim to support member recruitment and actively participate in the development of coalition activities," adds Kristoffersen.

The innovative FMC project was initiated in 2021 by the World Economic Forum and the Office of the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry. Today FMC includes 96 members, such as Coca-Cola, Amazon, Ford, Google, Rio Tinto, Microsoft, and Maersk. It aims to prompt market demand for technologies critical for achieving a net-zero future.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen's involvement emphasizes our dedication to leading the industry towards a more sustainable future through actionable, science-based efforts to combat climate change.
