Nashville, Tenn. (June 19, 2017) - Mary Mancini, chair of the Tennessee Democratic Party, released the following statement recognizing Juneteenth :
'Today we mark the end of slavery by celebrating Juneteenth. It is a day to look back on the progress made, but also to confront the work our nation must do to fully heal from its original sin. Racism remains a blight on our society, and racist policies remain in effect in our institutions. On Juneteenth, we recommit ourselves to righting these wrongs, and to work everyday to form a more perfect union for all, regardless of who they are, where they live, or what they look like.'
